Tree Walk and Art Workshop

2025

Tree Walk and Art Workshop
On 26 September 2025, Cairo Climate Talks (CCT), in collaboration with the local organization Dayma, organized a Tree Walk and Art Workshop in the green neighbourhood of Maadi, Cairo.

The activity focused on exploring Maadi’s rich urban vegetation, which hosts a wide variety of native and non-native tree species. Cairo’s biodiversity is often overlooked in everyday urban life, and the guided walk offered participants the opportunity to rediscover the city’s streets’ flora and to reconnect with nature in a mindful and reflective way.

During the walk, participants learned how trees and plants influence the urban environment. Using heat mapping as a discussion tool, the group explored the role of vegetation in reducing urban heat, improving microclimates, and enhancing the resilience of cities to climate change. The exchange highlighted how green spaces contribute to more livable and climate-resilient urban areas.

Followi

ng the Tree Walk, participants took part in a hands-on art workshop. Using natural materials collected during the walk, they applied a print-making technique to design and print patterns on fabric tote bags. The creative process encouraged participants to reflect on their observations and to translate environmental awareness into artistic expression.

The Tree Walk and Art Workshop demonstrated how combining environmental education with creative practice can foster community engagement and raise awareness about the importance of urban nature. Through this interactive format, the event contributed to ongoing dialogue on climate, biodiversity, and sustainable urban living within the framework of the Cairo Climate Talks.
